Desktop Manager is the Blackberry's PC software which allows the user to synchronize data, to install downloaded application, and to backup and restore files. Simply launch the software and it will detect whether there is a blackberry handheld in the USB port (ability to set auto-launch when handheld is plugged in). It is easy to use and allows synchronization with a host of personal and corporate software such as Outlook, ACT!, Groupwise, Lotus, Netscape, MS Schedule, and Outlook Express.
Synchronizing is simple. You can choose whether to import or export items only or to synchronize it. If there are conflicts, a simple wizard helps grab the correct data. more to come at a later time.

Since I upgraded to the 7520, the previous version of Desktop Manager was left in place after I was informed by Nextel customer service that I did not need upgrade. Everything was working for a few days until one day it just stopped synching and would fail to recognize my blackberry as a device that is connected via Desktop Manager.

PIN messages is one of the fastest means to communicate to your BB friends (or fellow BES coworkers). PIN messages are also encrypted and unable to be logged; causing an uproar in some BB equipped corporations since management could not monitor them. There are much debate on the boards as to how these messages are sent. It is said that PIN messages go directly through the Blackberry network, with an ability to bypass any BES server, and does not route through the internet. Some speculate that it is through RIM's servers but further speculation may include going through your carrier servers/terminals as well.
In the event of an emergency, PIN messaging can be one of the best way to communicate with another blackberry user.
