I applauded Nextel for giving BWC users full access to the HTML browser. But as of two days ago, I lost connectivty to the internet service on the HTML browser and went hunting to get it back. If you have issues with the HTML browser (called Internet Browser for BWC users), I've documented my experiance below with every possible solution I have found.
This blog also applies to those who receive this message when using the Internet Browser (BWC's HTML browser).
"Internet Service Unavailable. If this problem persists, please contact your service provider."
First step: Make sure you upgrade your OS to the latest one (OS 4.0.0.319).
Step Two A: Blackerry WebClient service books
Check to see if you have all the service books as listed below:
1 - Blackberry Internet Browsing Service [BR...]
2 - IPPP for BIBS [IPPP]
3 - Web Client [CMIMIE]
4 - WAP Transport (Nextel Support) [WAP]
5 - WAP Transport (Nextel) [WAP]
6 - WAP Browser (Nextel Support) [Browser...]
7 - WAP Browser (Nextel) [Browser Config]
8 - Provisioning [PROVISIONING]
9 - Blackberry Browser [Browser Config]
If you are missing some of the books as listed here, log onto your Blackberry WebClient (you can register for it if you haven't done so). Go into your 'profile' and scroll down to the Service Book entries. You should have two service books available to send to your handheld. 1 - Send Internet Browser Service Book. 2 - Send Service Book. Click on Send Internet Browser Service Book. Theoretically, after a successfull transmission, your HTML browser should work now. If you see this option and it does not work, request Nextel to have them send it to your device....Yes, you'll have to call Nextel Blackberry Support (800.639.6111 option #3, etc.).
Step Two B: If BWC does not work
If you do not see the Internet Browser Service Book under your BWC's Profile page, then proceed with the following: Below are 5 options which worked for some folks but did not work for me.
1 - Refresh your Host Routing Table (HRT). Go to Options>Host Routing Table>Click to 'Register Now'. Wait a few minutes; you will get an email if successfully registered.
2 - Refresh HRT, then take the battery out for 2.5 minutes. Insert battery again and conduct a Master Radio Reset (Options>Security>Click to 'Master Radio Reset')>Yes and you will be prompted a password; while pressing half moon, type numbers 0000 (zero's).
3 - Have the BB service rep change your IP. This was suggested by CSR.
4 - I've editted the post as per forum user SpacemanSpiff and pasted it below,
Download the new Software (OS. 4.0.0.319)
Delete all your service books (Options>Service Books)
Turn off your 7520 and remove the battery
Wait 2.5 minutes
Go back to your service books and undelete ONCE
You should see the Blackberry Browser Book
Click to view HRT (Options>Host Routing Table)
Click to send
Wait a few seconds while the transmission occurs
* I completed these steps here and lost my Internet Browser icon. Bear in mind that I originally had the browser for almost 2 weeks, received an error message when accessing the web and then completed the steps above and then lost my browser icon completely.
5 - Lastly, I logged onto my Blackberry Web Client account and resent my service books to my 7520 (it's under options I believe). Under my Blackberry Nextel WebClient account, I also lost the option to send the service books to my handheld.
Step 3: Contact Nextel
Phone: I called customer support (Tier 2 Blackberry support) at Nextel twice and both reps did not have any answers for me........one of them was absolutely clueless as to what an HTML browser is while the other suggested Telenav was neccessary to get HTML browser access. Both were blatantly wrong.
Email: I decided to send Nextel an email as opposed to speaking with a misinformed Tier 2 Blackberry service rep. I received two emails from Nextel since and then within hours of the following day, I got my HTML browser. While none of the above options worked for me, it has worked for others. In my case, it seemed apparent that it was a backend issue. I was able to get the HTML browser working, but it just failed after a week. Hope this article helped. As always, there is the BBForums to help you further. good luck.
Well ... I upgraded via the T-Mobile provided software 2 weeks ago. My browser disappeared. After about 10 hours on the phone with T-mobile and RIM, it was determined that my blackberry was not registering on the RIM network, but it was registering on the T-Mobile network.(we did every bit of trouble shooting you can think of ... 3 times).
RIM said they would have it fixed in 48 hours. 56 hours later I called RIM. They said it was a T-Mobile issue.
T-Mobile said it was my blackberry and that I needed to replace it with a refurbished(!) with no guarantee on condition or pay $300 for a new one.
I reminded T-Mobile that the I could access the internet mere seconds before the upgrade, and that this was their software and their fault. they said its a known issue with a small amount of Blackberries.
T-Moble sucks.
now I am either internetless or out $300 bucks. I am switching to Sprint

The upgrade will not compromise your NOL browser. The HTML Browser is an additional feature.

This is why I simply won't risk the 319 upgrade soley to get the new browser. If there was a way to get the new HTML browser without the upgrade and still have NOL as a backup, then I would go for it. Not willing to risk another crash just for that. I'll wait until another third party comes out or Nextel has their shit worked out.
